Position Overview
The Treasurer of Festivals & Events Ontario (FEO) plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the financial health, accountability, and sustainability of the organization. As a member of the Board Executive, the Treasurer provides strategic financial oversight and supports informed decision-making.
This role is particularly important during FEO’s current period of organizational transition and renewal and works closely with a Finance Committee composed of Board members to strengthen financial processes, reporting, and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight & Governance
- Provide oversight of financial position including cash flow, revenues, expenses, and liabilities
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to the Board
- Support annual budget development and monitoring
- Identify financial risks and mitigation strategies
Finance Committee Leadership
- Lead and work collaboratively with the Finance Committee (Board members)
- Strengthen financial policies, controls, and reporting practices
- Support financial recovery and sustainability strategies
Compliance & Risk
- Ensure compliance with FEO bylaws, policies, and applicable regulations
- Support audit and reporting processes
Strategic & Organizational Contribution
- Contribute to strategic planning and organizational decision-making
- Support funding strategies including memberships, sponsorships, and grants

Commitment Expectations
- Attend 4–6 Board meetings per year (approx. 2 hours each, including AGM)
- Participate in Finance Committee and/or ad hoc working groups
- Prepare in advance by reviewing financial materials and reports
- Engage in ongoing awareness of sector trends and organizational needs
- Actively contribute to discussions, consensus-building, and decision-making

Eligibility & Qualifications
Required
- 21 years of age or older
- Experience in financial management, accounting, or related field
- Strong understanding of financial reporting and governance
- Ability to operate within a policy-governance Board model
- Commitment to FEO’s mission and the festivals and events sector
Preferred
- CPA or equivalent experience
- Experience in not-for-profit, tourism, or events sector
- Experience supporting organizations through transition or restructuring

Compensation
- Volunteer role (pre-approved expenses covered in alignment with FEO policy)
